A leading UK provider of environmental services, in particular facilities for recycling, waste management and disposal. Our client manages several wharves and docks along the Thames, receiving wastes from local borough collections. Material is compacted, containerised and transported by river to a disposal site or energy recovery facility. The business is seeking an experienced operations manager who can bring strong leadership and operational efficiency. The person appointed will join a talented management team where personal development and career advancement are first class.
The Role
- Reporting to the General Manager, manage an operational team of 80 through four facility managers based across three locations in London.
- Responsible for achieving agreed revenue, cost and productivity targets for a business unit of c£25m turnover.
- Spearhead productivity and performance. A rounded role covering operations, engineering, environmental control, plant and machinery, health and safety, customer liaison.
- Key activities are: team leadership and people development, ensuring regulatory compliance and maintenance of capital plant and mobile equipment.
- Build and maintain good relationships with key customers. Act as spokesperson for the company in contacts with regulatory bodies and other local interested parties.
The Person
- Operations manager from waste management, or warehousing, distribution, fulfilment centre or bulk break / cross-dock environment, where compliance with regulatory controls is an important factor.
- Proven ability in meeting demanding daily service requirements and controlling operational consistency, whilst planning and managing for the longer term.
- Successful record of leading a sizeable workforce based on several sites. Commercially aware, familiar with producing and managing operational cost budgets.
- Energetic and resilient. Skilled manager of change with good influencing and persuasive skills. Excellent communicator and people manager adept at delivering results through others.
