New year, new challenges
Welcome to our first newsletter of 2010.
This time of year is always a busy for one for recruiters as businesses and individuals reassess their objectives and what they need to do to achieve them. So far the signs are that 2010 will see more activity than the year just gone but, as I explain in the 'Waste Infrastructure' article, 2009 wasn't as bad a year for the waste sector as it was for others.
As usual this brief newsletter contains a variety of articles aimed at both recruiters and candidates. We hope this will provide some useful insight into finding the right staff or, if you are on the other side of the fence, some helpful guidance on landing that plum job.
Enjoy the read and please feel free to let us know what you think.
Waste infrastructure - a jobs gold rush?
In this article Stuart Spindler explains how the push to redevelop Britain's waste infrastructure has had an interesting impact on the demand for management talent. He also looks at the recession and what impact this has had on the waste sector and examines excellent job prospects - particularly for those who have process engineering experience.

Resolving corporate conflict
What happens when relationships break down at senior managment levels within an organisation? The consequences can be serious as the damage can often spread beyond the individuals to their teams and potentially the entire organisation. So what can the CEO or Chairman do about it? In this article Nigel Bates looks at some of the solutions that can be applied to solve apparently intractable conflicts within organisations.
Recruitment turns the corner
All the signs are that executive recruitment is picking up - but don't take our word for it. In this article we look at what the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (and others) are saying about the demand for executives in the second half of 2009.
Getting more out of LinkedIn
Whether you are a fan of the whole 'social networking' revolution or not there is no question that sites like Facebook and Twitter are exerting an increasing influence in our lives. On the business side of things one network that has rapidly been growing in importance is LinkedIn. This free site allows business professionals to contact each other, share ideas and is becoming an increasingly important recruitment tool. In this article Neil Watkins offers some advice and tips on getting the most out of LinkedIn and putting it to work for you.
Cranfield connections
Over the past year Spindler and the world renowned Cranfield School of Management have developed a close working relationship. Here Michelle Gray, Head of Careers Business Development at Cranfield, talks about the value of tapping into their highly qualified and experienced pool of talent. Students on Cranfield MBAs average six years of work experience across many sectors and Spindler can use their connection to help you tap into this talent.
The benefit of a sabbatical
Have you ever been tempted to take an extended break from work and do something a little different? Well that is what Stuart Spindler did late last year, signing up to a nature conservation project in Africa for six weeks. Now back in the UK, Stuart reveals what he learned from the the break and why it has been good for business.
Someone's had their Weetabix
Breakfast is known as the most important meal of the day and two of our clients would certainly agree. The Spindler team has recently been busy recruiting for two well known brands that specialise in getting people off to a good start in the morning. Everyone knows and loves Weetabix and it seems that the public's appetite for healthy foods and snacks has been driving growth at the business - which has in turn resulted in lots of new opportunities that we have been helping to fill.
In addition, we have also been working closely with Coffee Nation. You may have noticed their 'coffee-on-the-go' machines springing up all over the place. We recently recruited a new Sales Director for them and indications are that both they and Weetabix are confident about their prospects in the year ahead. Keep an eye on our 'Current Vacancies' section if you are interested in working in this growing sector.
Fast track recruitment
If you live in in Kent chances are that you will probably have taken advantage of the new High Speed 1 (HS1) train service that uses the Eurostar line from Folkestone to London St. Pancras. This new line has revolutionised journey times for Kent travellers. The Spindler team has been working with HS1 since its inception and has been recruiting both managers and directors for the company.
The High Speed 1 business continues to evolve and we are hopeful of more involvement in their future management resourcing, so watch this space!
