A decision has been taken to enter, for the first time, the Scottish market where growth potential is anticipated as more councils outsource in the future. The recent publication of Scotland’s Zero Waste Plan has set out a vision for a zero waste society that is focussed on the recycling of waste streams away from the traditional landfill solution which will require expertise from the private sector.
Initial success has been achieved in qualifying for the next stage in the important Edinburgh Municipal Services tender and they wish to now build a strong and profitable business based on this and other opportunities.
The Role
- Reporting to the Bid Director, take responsibility for leading and project managing the bid process for the Edinburgh contract and all future tenders.
- Take ownership for developing and nurturing relationships with all relevant Scottish authorities and other relevant organisations in the private and public sector.
- Articulate and promote the company’s unique position in the market and network extensively to ensure the company is well positioned to exploit this experience in the future.
- Identify and evaluate future contract opportunities and work with the bid team in England to build a business case for tender submission. Present and justify potential bids to the Environmental Services Board for approval.
- Identify, evaluate and secure appropriate partnerships or joint ventures which enhance the company’s potential for growth and profitability.
The Person
- A senior executive from the Scottish environmental services industry with significant experience in business development or operational management.
- A track record of bidding, securing and delivering long term, high value services to local authorities or, responsible for managing the procurement and delivery of such services within a local authority.
- Has demonstrated the ability to work in a largely independent style with minimal support and with a high level of personal motivation and autonomy.
- Able to balance the strategic requirements of developing a new business with the tactical, hands on tasks needed in the early stages of growth.
- An excellent communicator who can impress and influence senior contacts and opinion forms positively.
