Commercial Manager - With the opportunity for progression to a more senior role - Scotland based - Excellent Package to attract the best.
The Company
Shanks Waste Management is one of the UK’s leading waste management and recycling companies, who have changed their business model in recent years from one of collection and disposal to collection, recycling and recovery. The company has recently reorganised into two regional structures with dedicated Directors that have responsibility for all the business, including PFI contracts, in their territory. This new structure has given rise to the need for a new position in each team that will support the Operations Director in a wide variety of tasks. Opportunities for future career development are substantial.
The Role
- Report directly to the Operations Director and provide him with support and advice on how to create and deliver a strategy of growth by creating business development opportunities in all areas of the business.
- Examine the current financial and operational performance of all Industrial & Commercial and PFI contracts in the region and recommend methods of improving the return on investments made by the company that are innovative and commercially viable.
- Undertake detailed investigations into all practical ideas on how to move the business away from being contract compliant to one of extracting the best possible return from the investments made in each operation/contract.
- Recommend a series of plans that have been formulated in agreement with the existing management that exploit these opportunities and build on the current business base.
The Person
- Graduate or similar level, most probably in a business related degree. An MBA would be a distinct advantage.
- Proven ability in business development in a process driven organisation where they have demonstrated the ability to challenge established practices. Knowledge of the environmental and PFI sectors would be an advantage.
- Demonstrable contribution to business success through innovative and focused initiatives which have a positive impact on key targets and bottom line results.
- Influential, persuasive and authoritative when required, but with creativity and sensitivity to the ideas and preconceptions of others. Able to naturally build empathy and trust across the organisation.
- Good team player who can unite others around new initiatives that result in new ways of working and able to deputise for the Operations Director and seen as his natural successor in the future.
